American companies have frequently sued Chinese firms over copyright infringement, but now the shoe's on the other foot.
A Chinese IT company is suing Google in a Beijing court over who has first rights to the name.
Beijing Guge Sci-Tech Co. officially registered with the Municipal Industrial and Commercial Bureau in April 19, 2006. Google set up its Chinese branch on Nov. 24, 2006.
Google China asserts that the Beijing company knew of its plans from media reports and jumped the gun on registering the name, which variously translates to songs from the valley (Silicon Valley, natch)
