    Chinese IT company sues Google

American companies have frequently sued Chinese firms over copyright infringement, but now the shoe's on the other foot.

A Chinese IT company is suing Google in a Beijing court over who has first rights to the name.

Beijing Guge Sci-Tech Co. officially registered with the Municipal Industrial and Commercial Bureau in April 19, 2006. Google set up its Chinese branch on Nov. 24, 2006.

Google China asserts that the Beijing company knew of its plans from media reports and jumped the gun on registering the name, which variously translates to songs from the valley (Silicon Valley, natch)

My guess is that Google will win this one. I'm pretty sure that's what the Sci-Tech company did, they registered the name knowing that Google would eventually go for it...pesky cybersquatters. Really interesting though!

Google, as a giant IT company that it is, might be able to get through and win this one. I agree thumbs down.
